Hybrid Beamforming for Terahertz Wireless Communications with Beam Squint: A Survey

Benefiting from the ultra-wide bandwidth, terahertz (THz) communication is considered one of core technologies 6G mobile communication. However, high path loss a severe issue for THz band, which needs to be solved by ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. For sake reducing hardware cost and power comsumption, hybrid beamforming technology required, has been adopted in 5G In wideband system, enormous antenna bandwidth cause spatial- frequency-wideband effect, resulting acute beam squint. Eliminating squint key engineering realization ultra massive MIMO band. To circumvent this issue, paper presents comprehensive overview including channel model, traditional phase shifter based true time delay architectures, 3D uniform planar array. Finally, multiple significant open issues potential challenges are pointed out elaborated.
